Ratings Watch: The Greatest Show on Earth

(Note - no ratings chart this week because the tables mess with the feed in a big way. You want to see a chart, go to zap2it.com and click around a little bit, there it is.)

NBC: They paid enormous amounts of money for the winter olympics; they pre-empted their entire prime time schedule for several weeks of a sweeps month. And yet, they barely crack the top 5 shows.

1. American Idol Wednesday 16.5 rating/25.0 share

2. American Idol Tuesday 15.5/24.0

3. Grey’s Anatomy 15.0/23

4. Desperate Housewives 14.2/20.0

5. Olympics (Monday) 12.8/19

The rest of the top ten: 2 more olympics, CSI, Dancing With the Stars, House.

It’s not as dire as it looks for NBC execs. For the week they averaged an 11.7 rating and an 18 share, better than ABC’s next highest 7.3/11.0. So people would rather watch the Olympics as long as there is nothing else good on. And lets face it, with something like 60 shows in a prime time week, most of it is crap. Still, with all that emphasis on ice dancing you’d think that Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives wouldn’t be safe. The chicks dig the ice dancing, you know.
