How Hard is too F*#$ing Hard?
Clive Thompson writes in wired.com about an interesting problem in the game design community - the stratified player community. People who buy games tend to be in two categories - hardcore gamers who can devote entire weekends and evenings to play (also known as jobless) and people who can only put in an hour here or there. If you make your game hard enough for the first group to enjoy, you are alienating the second group. And vice-versa. It threatens a burgeoning industry.
If it really matters to you, you won’t read it because you’ve almost beat Halo.
