Downey Jr. In the Role He Was Born To Play
Jon Favreau is making an movie of IRON MAN, the marvel comics character. Apparently co-starring in DAREDEVIL wasn’t enough for him and he wants to direct one instead. Iron Man, reports the Hollywood Reporter, will be made flesh and alloy by Robert Downey Jr.
This is genius.
Tony Stark, billionaire industrialist and brilliant inventor of the Iron Man suit, has one of the most interesting superhero flaws ever - he’s an alcoholic. Hmmmm, who in Hollywood is heroic looking, brilliant at what he does and plagued by substance-abuse issues? See, it’s that middle one that makes Downey such a good choice. If you remember his seemingly effortless portrayal of Charlie Chaplin, you know that Bobby2 can do almost anything, even with a brain chemstry so unbalanced it would make another man unable to stand up straight.
If Ben Affleck was actually blind and yet had won the Grand Prix two years runnning, maybe DAREDEVIL would have worked.
