The Podcast and Portable Media Expo
Just got back from it - met my heroes!
First there is Soccergirl. The first podcast I ever subscribed to was hers. Here she is depicted with her long time boyfrend Ryan, whom I am happy to say is no taller than I am. I’m always happy when someone is no taller than I am. It’s a neurosis, I suppose. If you click on the link, remember it’s not safe for work. In fact, I’m certain it’s unsafe for most situations.
And here is Joanne Colan, hostess of Rocketboom! A very smart woman, from what I overheard. Certainly smarter than the also-lovely Amanda Congdon, who walked from the popular vidcast a few months ago and has yet to turn up in a comparable venue.
I was surprised to see so many podcast celebrities shuffling around just like me, and I guess that’s a potent reminder that the field is still much smaller than it seems. If there’s one message that came up again and again it was that there is no money in podcasting unless you are doing it for someone else. If you are a podcaster, the way to monetize is find someone who wants to be a podcaster, and do all the technical stuff for them.
