Revenge Of The Nerds 2007 - Nerds Strike Out

This story seems just a little suspicious to me…

A remake of the 1984 cult classic “Revenge of the Nerds” has been shut down after only two weeks because it was too raunchy for the Atlanta university hosting the production.

After the $12.5 million film — from fledgling director Kyle Newman — was kicked off the campus of Emory University, “Nerds” moved to neighboring school Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. But the smaller college lacked the large-scale campus feel that the movie’s producers felt it called for. Once production was halted, it became a challenge for the studio to find another location acceptable for shooting, while continuing to pay an entire production crew for their time.

The studio has released all parties from the project.

I believe the last paragraph (okay, the last two if you count the Reuters sourcing) but the rest of it sounds like face-saving to me. Fox Atomic cannot have had an awful lot of confidence in this project to begin with (take a look at that budget!) but obviously it was going even worse than they had thought.

When the suits give up on a pre-sold property based on a sure-fire high concept like this, there has to be more than location trouble involved. I’m thinking massive cocaine use. Anybody have any other ideas?
