Horizon Watch: Trail Of The Screaming Forehead
Larry Blamire is a filmmaker who mines a particularly rare vein. His most famous effort, THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA, is a pitch-perfect parody of those second-bill drive in features of the fifties, with their tin-eared dialog and markedly un-special effects. I’m proud to say that the only framed movie poster I own is of LOST SKELETON. Did you know if was filmed in SKELETORAMA, the screen wonder of the age?
Coming soon is Blamire’s follow up, a color, widescreen extravaganza called TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD. The plot? “Terror strikes Longhead Bay when creeping alien foreheads begin attatching themselves to local townspeople and seizing their very souls - launching a vast invasion from outer space!” Which puts this right into Zontar territory.
Maybe this clip can say it better.
Nobody is better than Blamire at distilling bad 50’s horror moves to their crazy essence, while retaining their charm. Because of that, even if you’re not familiar with the originals you can laugh at the parodies. TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD is currently playing the festival circuit but it could be picked up by a distributor at any time. Or not, in which case I suggest buying the DVD and having your friends over for a Forehead Party.
