200 Fox Affiliates Become The iTunes Store
You’re too busy to watch 24 when it’s on, you can’t set a VCR, you don’t mind paying for free stuff and you like your TV in a little window on a small screen? I got great news for you!
FoxTV will announce tomorrow that certain prime-time shows are going to be made available for download from the websites of 200 of its affilitates. The episodes will be available from the day after their premiere and will cost $1.99 apiece. Sound familiar? No word in the Reuters/Hollywood Reporter piece on whether the Fox shows will play on iPods. But they better.
A complete season will range in price from $19.99 to $39.99.
Also unclear from the piece is whether the shows, which you’re already paying for, will include ads. There is definitely money from ads somewhere in the equation…
“It’s not just traditional prerolls or display ads,” Berryman said. “We’re getting into contextual ad delivery and search ad delivery.”
But these ads may just be on the download page of the website. It’s still possible that your purchase will allow you to avoid advertising when you’re watching the show.
Just like it does at the movies.
