Golden Globes “News”
Snarky title? Listen pal, I could have put EACH WORD in quotes.
Still, it’s pretty slim pickins around these parts for non-strike-related stories, so I’m happy to pass along a little press-release goodness to y’all. When the Golden Globes air next January 13, one highlight you can expect is watching Steve Spielberg accept the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.” About ***king time, Hollywood Foreign Press Association! Finally got up from your junket-booze-induced stupors to put this together, eh?
Spielberg has received six Golden Globes; for Best Director for “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan,” for Best Motion Picture (Drama) for “E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Schindler’s List,” and “Saving Private Ryan”; and for Best Foreign Language Film For “Letters From Iwo Jima.” He received 12 additional Golden Globe nominations; eight as Best Director for “Jaws,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial,” “The Color Purple,” “Amistad,” “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” and “Munich,” three as a producer on Best Motion Picture (Drama) nominees “The Color Purple,” “Empire of the Sun,” and “Amistad,” and one for his screenplay for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
He’s also gotten some cursory attention from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who will put on an awards show later that year. Spielberg, who had a hand in THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, is expected to apologize to the ghost of DeMille for making the source material for THE TEN COMMANDMENTS boring.
But here’s the REAL news: Rumer Willis, 19-year-old spawn of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, has been selected to be “Miss Golden Globes”. A real title, not just a double-entendre!
Traditionally, Miss Golden Globe, who assists in the Golden Globes ceremony, is the daughter of a well-known celebrity.
“Assists in the ceremony.” Which I guess means, what, cleaning up in the green room? Driving back to the nominee’s house at the last minute to fetch a bowtie? Affording an opportunity for us all to evaluate the power of genetic influence?
For what it’s worth, the press release provided a helpful list of previous Miss Golden Globes.

Freddy Prinze Jr. was once “Miss Golden Globes?” I’m, sure his gown was stunning.
Now, Rhonda Shear: THAT makes total friggin’ sense, if ya know what I mean. (crickets) Alright, Dan: You and I may be the only people left who remember UP ALL NIGHT WITH RHONDA SHEAR.

Or as it should be notated, “UP! All Night.”
Some years, it was MR. Golden Globes. It just amounts to smaller globes, I guess.
