Short Film Update, Part Eight
I received this message from Faye, the producer of “Arrangements:”
Hi Folks:
“Arrangements” has been invited as an Official Selection of the 2008 International Cine Santa Cruz Film Festival. Festival dates are May 9 - 17 this year - more details to come when the schedule is confirmed.
We are also planning a special private pre-Festival screening for cast, crew, Cinemar Board and Significant Other(s)! Coming Very Soon!
Congratulations and Many Thanks to all of you who made this production so much fun!
Ain’t that nice? Funny, I thought it was a sort of “given” that the short would make the cut. Not that there is any nepotism or favoritism, as far as I can tell. Chip submitted a rough-cut DVD of the short to the festival a few weeks ago, right under the deadline, and from that version it was selected– another good sign that the final cut should be sublime.
He and Jay have been, when time permits, continuing to edit the film. In Chip’s words:
We are meeting tomorrow to essentially just watch the final edit. We went over everything last week, got the fantasy sequences working, smoothed a few more transitions, inserted the pickups, etc etc… Left Jay with a little music writing to do, and some final sound cues to insert, and will watch it tomorrow to sign off.
Jay has only been available to meet about once a week for a few hours, so it’s been slow going. But it oughtta be ready for prime time after tomorrow. The notify date for SCFF is March 1st, so we should know soon.
Well, the SCFF beat it by a day, but they’ll probably officially post the selections tomorrow. I was a bit worried I was jumping the gun by posting this update, but you know what: The Podcast Network is based in Australia, and though it’s February 29th here, the post date is March 1st.
Chip has more than “Arrangements ” in the festival:
I do know that they’ve already picked their features… Programming The Nation was selected (I art directed this one, and did some B roll shooting - feature doc) so I’m looking forward to having two movies in the fest this year. :)
If “Arrangements” indeed hits it’s target length of around 12 minutes, and embodies a certain polish and quality (which, from what I’ve seen during production, it has) It’ll slot nicely into a lot of festival short programs. When the final cut is ready, Faye has stated her intention to see how far and wide this will go. Santa Cruz is just the beginning, apparently.
